David was born on January 13, 1943, to Mr. Le Van Vang and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Que in Hanoi, Vietnam. David graduated from Saigon Medical School in 1971. After an internship in general surgery, David was appointed to practice at the prestigious military hospital in Nha Trang, Vietnam.
He met his wife and lifelong partner, Kim Huong, on the beaches of Vung Tau, Vietnam in 1971. David was immediately lovestruck and they married on May 24, 1974. On April 24, 1975, David and Kim evacuated Vietnam on Pan Am’s “last flight out” of Saigon. Their first daughter, Christine, was born a few days later after their arrival in Guam.
After settling in the U.S., David completed his residency in family medicine at Louisiana State University. He practiced family medicine until March of 2020.
David is survived by his loving family: wife Kim Huong Le; daughter Dr. Christine Huong Le; daughter Louise Huong Le, J.D., her husband Brad Gathright, J.D., and their children Sean David and Audrey Huong; daughter Diana D. Le, B.B.A.; and sisters, a brother, and many nieces and nephews in the United States, Vietnam, and France.
David will be remembered for his gregarious nature and infectious laugh. He enjoyed social events with family and friends, as well as chatting with his patients. He always beamed with pride while talking about his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. David valued education and hard work; he practiced medicine continuously and happily throughout his life. We will miss the head of our family immensely, but we cherish his lessons of diligence and devotion, his humor and intelligence, and the wonderful memories with him. David was an amazing person who led a wonderful life, and we are honored to be a part of it.
