

Born on December 16, 1950, David lived a life marked by strength, loyalty, and an unwavering love for his family. At just 18 years old, he answered the call to serve his country. He bravely served in the United States Army’s Prestigious, 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. Known to his Army brothers and comrades as “Chico,” David carried the honor and pride of his service with him throughout his life. He was, and will always be, a true hero and patriot.
On September 2, 1978, David married the love of his life, Christine Lara Olvera, his always and forever. Together, they built a life rooted in love, partnership, and family, a bond that stood the test of time and remained unbreakable.
David was a man of many passions. He loved Camaros, music that filled a room with energy, and spending countless hours in his garage, working with his hands creating something out of nothing. His dog Lilly always right there beside him, his little shadow and constant companion. For years, one of his favorite times was cheering on his Baby Girl and Buddy at their sporting events, always being the loudest voice in the stands. To many of those kids on the teams he wasn’t just a spectator he was everyone’s Pa. In his professional life within the industrial cleaning services profession, he earned the nickname “Super Dave,” a reflection of his strong work ethic, reliability, and larger-than-life presence.
Above all, David’s greatest joy was his family. He was a proud and loving father to his son, David “Best Friend” Olvera II (Celismar Olvera), and daughters Terri Ann Plumlee (Chad Plumlee), and Davina Dietrich (Doug Dietrich). He shared a special, loving bond with Amber Ramirez (Tim Alvarez), who always held a meaningful place in his life. As Pa, his love for his grandchildren knew no bounds especially for “Baby Girl” Maleah Olvera and “Buddy” Micah Olvera, he always made sure they knew that he loved them with all his heart. He is also survived by his grandchildren Cadence Plumlee, Camden Plumlee, Daysen Dietrich, Dristen Dietrich, Tzeviya Olvera, Melanie Bell (Karson Bell), and Emilee Alvarez. Even in his final chapter, Pa’s heart was full of excitement and love for the little one on the way his first great-grandchild, Olivia Olvera, due August 3, 2026.
David is survived by his loving wife, Christine Lara Olvera, his children and grandchildren, his brother Lucio Olvera (Cindy Olvera), and his sister Martha Banda (Frank Banda). Also several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Pedro Olvera, his mother, Petra Olvera, his sisters, Gloria Van Putten and Stella Olvera, and his brothers, Albert Olvera and Pete Olvera.
David will be remembered for his strength, his humor, his deep love for family, and the way he made everyone feel welcome and valued. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, service, and family will live on in all who knew him, always and forever.
Visitation will be held at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038, US, on May 11, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at the same location from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
A Committal Service will take place at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038, US, on May 11, 2026, from 1:15 pm to 1:45 pm.
