

David G. Ortiz was born in Houston, Texas on April 13, 1966 to his mother, Olivia Ortiz, and father, Salvador Ortiz, Sr. He was the youngest of five brothers: Salvador Ortiz Jr., Raul Ortiz, Guadalupe Ortiz, and Pedro Ortiz.
David was a very proud American who joined the United States Army at the young age of 17. He was stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia. He went to Air Assault School where he rappelled from helicopters in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
His first son, Christopher David Ortiz, was born while he served in the Army. After being Honorably Discharged, he moved back to Houston, Texas where he had two more children daughter, Stephanie Griffith (Scott), and son, Timothy David Ortiz (Andrea).
In 1988, David was baptized in Jesus’ name and received the Holy Ghost while attending Life Tabernacle in Houston, Texas.
David worked as a lineman for Southwestern Bell while attending college at the University of Houston-Downtown Campus where he met the love of his life, Johanna. They celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in August 2021.
David attended South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas. After graduating he opened his own practice. He loved serving his community. He helped many clients pro bono. His generosity impacted many people throughout the years in the community where he grew up.
David was very adventurous and had many interests and hobbies. He wanted to earn his private pilot’s license. He studied aviation at San Jacinto College Central campus. He loved playing the guitar and could “play by ear.”
He was a world traveler and experienced many great sights few people see. In 2006, his love of the Southwest region of the United States influenced his move to Las Vegas, Nevada. David practiced law in Nevada and Texas; always helping those in need.
In 2010, David joined his church family at Praise Tabernacle Church in Las Vegas. He had very strong bonds with many of the members of Praise Tabernacle. David was a well-respected Bible teacher.
In his spare time, he volunteered with Red Rock Search and Rescue. A non-profit organization that helps families search for their missing loved ones.
David spent at least one Saturday a month at the shooting range with his son, Tim. He was a dedicated Astros fan who visited seven stadiums. David also leaves behind eleven grandchildren and his cherished big black dog, Duke.
Above all David G. Ortiz was a loving husband, caring father, proud Popo, and loyal friend.
A visitation for David will be held Thursday, December 23, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A funeral service will occur Thursday, December 23, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A committal service will occur Thursday, December 23, 2021 from 2:15 PM to 2:30 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
