David was born in Houston, Texas, on January 17th, 1953 to Eugene (Gene) Pagel and Irene Billeck Pagel. He was born 13 months after his big brother Michael. He and Michael kept Gene and Irene on their toes being so close in age. Three years later, baby brother Johnny was born, three more years Stephen, three more years Tommy, then Brian 7 years later to complete their family. In 1965, the five older boys made the news when they all had their tonsils removed in the same hospital where they were born by the same doctor who delivered them. Imagine the recovery that their mother managed!
David played baseball in the minor league as a kid with big brother Michael until they moved to Aldine. In his teenage years, he loved going to the beach with friends every weekend he could. He loved watching football and baseball and analyzing the teams and player stats. David was a huge Astros and Texans fan. He also enjoyed watching professional wrestling. You rarely saw David without a liter Pepsi bottle in his hand. He took being an uncle seriously, and would entertain/play with all of his nieces and nephews. He was a big kid at heart. In later years, he developed a green thumb making cuttings for Plumerias and Angel Trumpets. He always looked forward to the weekends so he could go visit his special long time friends in Magnolia.
David is preceded in death by his father, Eugene, who passed away on September 29th, 2013. He is survived by his mother Irene and his brothers; Michael and Stephanie, Johnny, Stephen and Sheila, Tommy and Rhonda, and Brian and Veronica. He is also survived by his numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, David requested donations to St. Jude.
