

Delvin L. Getschmann passed away January 9, 2015, in a Houston hospital. He will be remembered for his great spirit and storytelling. He enjoyed working on his farm in LaGrange, Texas where he spent most of his time working with his cattle, after 40 years driving truck for Sears. Delvin was born on July 11, 1927, in Freyburg, Texas, on his family farm. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. He is survived by his loving wife of over 67 years, Junell Hoehne Getschmann and his two children, Shirley Getschmann Abrego and husband Daniel, Tim Getschmann and his wife Mariann. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Monica Abrego, Melissa Abrego Zientek and husband Ronnie and Mark Abrego. He leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Krystal Zientek, Amanda Zientek, Adrian Zientek and Damian Abrego and two great-great-grandchildren Logan and Brylar. He spend 39 years as Chaplain of American Legion Post 586 in Houston and spent over 60 years as an Usher at his church, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Houston. Delvin was a WWII veteran who was honored with two medals. He has received countless awards and honors for his work with the American Legion, VFW, and DAV. Pallbearers will be Mark Abrego, Adrian Zientek, Bobby Getschmann, Ronnie Zientek, Joe Munsch, Gary Mendall, Greg Pavlicek, and Marlon Romero. Visitation will be held at Pat H. Foley Funeral Directors on Thursday January 22 from 5 pm to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday January 23 begining at 10 am with interment to follow at Houston National Cemetery.
