Dennis Taylor, 58, of Montgomery, Texas, passed away on November 29th, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 15th, 1967 in Stockton, California, Dennis lived a life marked by service, loyalty, and deep devotion to the people he cared for.
From a young age, Dennis felt called to serve his country and community. He answered that call many times over—first in the United States Army, later in the Air Force, and throughout his 22-year career with the Waco Police Department, where he retired as a Detective. His dedication to public service continued long after retirement as he proudly led the Navy Sea Cadets Houston Division as Commanding Officer, mentoring young cadets with patience, strength, and compassion. Those who worked with him will remember his integrity, leadership, and unwavering work ethic.
Dennis also lived a life rich with passions that brought him joy and connected him deeply to others. He was an enthusiastic traveler, with Rome holding a special place in his heart—its history, beauty, and spirit captured him in a way few places could. Music was another defining part of his life. From high school to adulthood, he played in several bands. A talented keyboardist and vocalist sharing his love of performance and creativity with friends and fans alike. He enjoyed playing several instruments, always eager to learn something new or make music just for the fun of it.
He was also an avid gamer, embracing everything from PC games to board games, puzzle challenges, and escape rooms. No matter the format, Dennis loved the camaraderie, strategy, and laughter that came with every game night. These experiences brought him closer to family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come.
Above all, Dennis cherished his role as “Papa.” He adored his grandchildren—Claire Westerman, Luke Westerman, Aubrey Jordan, and Isabella Jordan—and lit up whenever he talked about them. Some of his happiest moments were spent playing with them, laughing together, and making memories during the annual “Mimi and Papa” summer vacations. These trips became beloved traditions, filled with joy, adventure, and the unmistakable warmth of a grandfather who loved his family with his whole heart.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Jena Taylor, and his children—Eric Westerman (Julie Westerman), Megan Jordan (Burl Jordan), Kayla Scaman, Kyle Taylor and Jason Taylor. He is also survived by his parents, Laura Hill Taylor and Robert Taylor, and his brothers, Robert Taylor III, Larry Taylor, and Edd Taylor. Dennis was also blessed with a large extended family. He is survived by his brother-in-law Larry Kunkel (Cindy Kunkel) and cherished niece Addison Kunkel and nephew Blake Taylor, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Dennis loved being part of a big family, and he took pride in supporting and celebrating them throughout the years. He leaves behind a family who adored him and a legacy rooted in service, honor, and love.
