

Ms. Derrell Elizabeth Williams was born February 6, 1949, to Nathaniel and Mabel Williams of Houston, Texas. As the youngest daughter, Derrell grew up with three sisters and three brothers in Acres Homes. She learned about her Lord and Savior during her youth.
Derrell attended Highland Heights Elementary, Harper Intermediate and M.C. Williams High School. While attending M.C. Williams, she met the love of her life, James Weldon Pruitt. They wed on October 23, 1967. To this union two daughters were born, Dionne Marie Pruitt and Norsie Michelle Pruitt.
She was instrumental in helping to raise several of her nieces and nephews. Derrell diligently cared for her mother and father before their deaths. She was a doting “maw maw” and was there for her grandchildren, Krystal, Dyamond, Rodney and Mya and her favorite great-grandson, Harley.
Derrell was employed by Kroger as a cashier for many years before becoming the store’s florist. In this position she found one of her true callings flowers! As many know Derrell enjoyed gardening on all levels. She cultivated fruits and vegetables for her family to eat. Derrell enjoyed and grew many variations of flowers while creating her flower gardens in her yard.
Derrell found pleasure in helping people, especially seniors. She cultivated this compassion in her children and grandchildren as well by taking them with her when she would visit the nursing homes. She would read to the residents, talk with those who needed company. Whatever they needed she was always willing to help. She would often donate and share with many nonprofit organizations, to benefit special needs and children within all communities.
Derrell grew up attending a Church of the Living God Temple 18. She later attended the Church of Living God Temple 1. Lastly, Derrell joined God's Grace Community Church.
On Thursday August 4, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. Derrell transitioned to her eternal home with her Savior Jesus and our God. She leaves to cherish her devoted husband, James Weldon Pruitt; daughters, DiOnne and Norsie Pruitt; stepdaughter, Myisha Smith; four grandchildren, Krystal Vallone, Dyamond Thomas, Rodney Green and Mya Green; a beloved great grandsons, Harley Vallone, Jarod Green; a grandson in law, Brandon Vallone; son in law, Corey Smith; two sisters, Edith DeWitt, Billye Boatman; and one brother, Ruben Williams along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
