

Dixie Carol Stone was born July 3, 1956 to John Paul Stone Sr. and Margaret Evangeline Miskell in Houston, TX. She graduated from Waltrip High School in 1974 in Houston, Texas. After high school she worked for Southwestern Bell for a number years. In late 1980, she met Bob on a blind date during which they never came in contact. Dixie attended a high school playoff football game at The Astrodome with the friends that introduced them. Since Bob was announcing the game, she heard his voice but was unable to see him. He was more fortunate, spotting her in the stands through binoculars. Several hours after the game they finally met at their friend’s house where they spent the evening playing cards. Six days later, on Thanksgiving Day, they became engaged, and were married February 6, 1981.
In March 1982, she and Bob welcomed a beautiful daughter they named Kathryn Jo Ann Allen (Katie Jo). In 1985 she turned her attention to her true passion, teaching. She graduated from North Harris Junior College in 1987, a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of Two-Year Colleges. In 1989 Dixie received her Bachelor’s Degree at Sam Houston State University in Elementary Education and a minor in Reading. Graduating Summa Cum Laude, she received Honors from Alpha Chi (All Academic Honors) and Phi Delta Kappa (Education).
Going to work for Aldine I.S.D. in 1990, she taught fourth grade for 5 years prior to becoming an Elementary Librarian, earning her Master’s Degree in Library Science in 1996. She remained a Librarian until her retirement in 2017. In 2008, she was honored by Sam Houston State University as the Distinguished Support Professional of the year.
Dixie and her Husband Bob have been active Members of Saint Dunstan’s for 38 years. During that time, she taught Sunday school, supervised the church nursery, and was active in the parish choir. She was also involved with the Daughters of The King, was a Lector and Chalicer, and a Counter. Since 2018, Dixie was a part time staff member working with member services and Lector and Chalicer scheduling.
Dixie is survived by her devoted Husband Robert “Bob” Allen of 39 years of Spring, TX, daughter Katie Jo Silhan and husband Tomas of Magnolia, TX, son Kurt Allen and wife Victoria of Johnson City, Tennessee, grandchildren Kailey Galvis and husband Miller, Taylor Allen, Kaisey Silhan, Charley Silhan, Phillip Allen, and Aiden Silhan, brother Bradley Stone and family of Abilene, TX, sister Cindy Wade and family of The Woodlands, TX, sister Susan Sanders and family of Houston, TX, brother John Paul Stone Jr. and family of Spring, TX. Dixie also had numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Charlotte Mae Cook.
In Lieu of flowers, Memorials in Dixie’s honor would be appreciated for Saint Dunstan’s Episcopal Church.
