Dolly Catherine Brooks Carswelll, peacefully departed this earthly world on December 11, 2023, her 94th birthday. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loose (Harmon) Carswell, mother, Thelma Brooks Gary, her father, George Burrows Brooks and her brother, George Ray Brooks.
Dolly moved to the Heights in Houston in her late childhood. She attended the former John H. Reagan High school where she made many lifelong friends, including Ursula Radar, who stayed close to Dolly and remains close to her family, and the now departed Beverly Pattillo. Dolly made Houston her home for the remainder of her life.
After graduating from High School, Dolly met the love of her life, Loose Carswell. The couple were married for 46 years, until Loose’s death in 1996. Dolly is survived by her three loving children, Linda (David) Anderson, Harmon (Denise) Carswell, and Susan (Mike) Love. She loved her children’s spouses as though they were her own. Nine grandchildren were blessed to have Dolly as their grandmother, Leif Anderson (Laura), Evan Anderson (Malin), Briana Love Settle (Michael), Ashley Love Schram (Jason), Casey Anderson Muse (Chris), Layne Anderson Faulkner (James), Austin Carswell (Avery), Chase Carswell, and Jordan Carswell Vaughan (Tim). Nine more children were fortunate to have Dolly as their great-grandmother, Jake Settle, Maddie Settle, Emma Settle, Jack Ahart, Iris Anderson, Hudson Muse, Sadie Muse, Zach Schram and Sloan Schram. What a wonderful family she and Loose created.
Dolly cherished her family and made them the priority in her life. She took care to ensure her children knew that they were always loved and had a secure, happy home. She continued that same love with all of her grandchildren, who adored her, and with her great-grandchildren who loved coming to visit with her.
Anyone who had the opportunity to know Dolly, understands what a loss her family is feeling with her passing. Her joyous laughter, her beautiful smile and the love she gave to all of us, will be greatly missed. It is now our privilege to continue living as she did: loving, giving and helping others in any way possible.
A Memorial Service for Dolly will be held at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079 at 3:30pm on January 27th, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation: give.michaeljfox.org
