Donald Glenn Curson of Houston, Texas passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023 at the age of 70. He was born on August 18, 1952 in Houston, the son of Donald Jay Curson and Patsy Nell Curson and was proud to call himself a lifelong Houstonian.
Don graduated from Spring Branch High School in 1970 and attended Blinn Junior College. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps., where he trained as a Radio Control Operator. He was honorably discharged in 1973.
He joined the family insurance business, Painter-Reichman & Company, in 1976 and spent more than 40 years as an insurance agent, before selling the business in 2018 to work in insurance sales for Dean & Draper Insurance Agency.
Don loved anything with a motor, whether it was cars (his prized Corvette); motorcycles, or boats. He enjoyed working in the yard and going overboard on Christmas decorations. He grew up spending summers in Jamaica Beach on Galveston Island and developed a lifelong love of the beach, where he liked nothing more than playing with his jetski, riding his ZTR lawn mower and occasionally fishing. He loved animals and could often be seen out on the streets of the neighborhood walking his beloved “pups”.
He spent many years as a Reserve Officer with the Spring Valley Police Department, after which he became a member of the Lakeside Homeowners Association Board, on which he was privileged to serve as Security Director and work closely with Harris County Precinct 5.
Don is preceded in death by his father, Donald Jay Curson and niece, Stephanie.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Curson; mother, Patsy Curson; sister, Nancy Christian and husband Ray; sister, Christy Rankin and husband Bill; and nephews Will Rankin and Jay Rankin, Dan McAndrews, Kyle McAndrews and Kevin McAndrews; and niece Kelli Kilgo, along with a large extended family.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas 77077 on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to Houston Shaggy Dog Rescue or another pet charity; or to a charity of your choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.forestparkwestheimer.com for the Curson family.
