It is with great sadness that the family of Dora Niño Gonzales announces her passing on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at the age of 84 years. Dora will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 63 years, Jesus Gonzales, Sr., and their children Maria Lazo (Gerard), Yolanda Picazo (William), Jesus Gonzales, Jr., Jaime Gonzales, and Diane Hayes (Brian). Dora will also be lovingly remembered by her six grandchildren, Christopher William Picazo, Danielle Marie Picazo, Addison Hayes, Gabriel Hayes, Jessica Hayes, and Gabriella Alicya Gonzales. Dora is survived by her sister, Ernestina Ramon, and was predeceased by her brothers, Juan Sembrano and Jesus Niño, Jr. Dora will forever be remembered by her nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
As a spouse of a Korean War Veteran, Dora attended regular meetings, activities, and annual reunions for multiple veteran organizations, including American GI Forum in Odem, TX and Houston, TX, Combat Infrantrymen’s Badge Assoc., 8th Cavalry Regiment Assoc., AMVETS, Korean War Veterans Assoc., and the VFW in Odem, TX. She also actively fundraised for Veterans Helping Veterans.
Dora dedicated her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren, imparting her wisdom and providing constant guidance. She enjoyed nurturing her family through cooking and lifelong support of their interests. After her children were grown, Dora was employed for eleven years at Continental Airlines.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday, January 23 , 2019 from 12:00 pm-2:00 pm followed by a funeral liturgy and light refreshments at American Heritage Funeral Home at 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local Alzheimer’s Association.
