

Doris L. Russ was born on November 15, 1924 in Peason, La to Irvin and Lona Greene Cooper. She passed away June 16,2o13 in Houston, Texas. Having graduated New Caney High School in New Caney, Texas. After high school Doris attended J.D.School of Nursing graduating in 1947. Doris worked at the Cripple Institute in Minnesota caring for children with polio while the iron lung was being developed. She was also the nursing supervisor over the Herman Hospital Paediatric Unit. While there she had turned down a job offer as the head administrator over Jeff Davis hospital because her family came first. She later took a position at the Medical Arts Surgical Wing. She finished her career as the charge nurse at Parkway General Hospital. Anytime there was a family member that was sick and needed help Doris would take a leave of absence from her job to go and care for them. Doris was strong in her faith having attended Central Baptist Church in her later years. She loved singing gospel music and reading. She also had a love for flowers especially wildflowers. There were many times where she would just pull over on the side of the road and start picking her some flowers. Doris was a very loving and devoted mother especially to her daughter Laura who lived with her until her death.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband James B. Russ; siblings, Pauline Ricks, Clyde Cooper, Howard Cooper, Ernestine Calloway, Irene Cooper and infant Baby girl. Doris will be greatly missed by her sons, Johnny Cooper and wife Kim, Paul Russ and wife Sarah and daughter Laura Russ; 6 grandchildren, Derek and wife Jennifer, Kristen, Wade, Bethany, Nathan, and Steven; 4 great-grandchildren, Chase, Kolby, Ian and Aiden; 2 sisters IrvieMae James and Brenda Bowers; brothers Linwood Cooper, Edward Roland Cooper, R.C. Cooper; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday June 19,2013 at Brookside Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Larry Maddox at 3:00 Thursday June 20,2013 at Brookside Grand Chapel with interment to follow in Brookside Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice Center for the loving care they gave their mom.
Johnny, Kim and Laura would like to say a special thank you to (the girls) Lona, Judy and Teresa for all the times they helped us out while carrying for her.
