Dorothy Maddox Jarrell joined her beloved Jesus on June 27, 2015. Her infectious smile and sassy attitude will be sorely missed among beloved family and friends. Dorothy was born in Durant, Oklahoma on March 23, 1928. It was there that she met and married her high school sweetheart, Jack Stewart Jarrell—a union that lasted for almost 50 years. They raised 3 children, and she nurtured their family with joy. Dorothy’s faith in Christ gave her the strength she needed through her husband’s illness, in the years after his death as she cared for her family without him, and in recent months as she battled her own disease like a champion. She was a long time member of Sugar Land First United Methodist Church where she was a ready volunteer, a faithful friend and literally shone with His Light as she sang her hymns to Him.
She is predeceased by her husband, Jack and her parents, Christine and Elmer Maddox. She is survived by her sister Jane Atkison and daughter Ginny Carpenter, her 3 children and their spouses Jane and Steve Taylor, Stewart and May Jarrell and Tracy and Marvin Chaskin. Her memory will be forever cherished by her 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at Sugar Land First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 1 at 2:00 PM. A reception at the church will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the “Caring Forever Fund” at Sugar Land First United Methodist Church. 431 Eldridge Road Sugar Land, TX 77478
