

Dorothy Marie Sampson, a beloved and cherished member of the Houston community, passed away on October 8, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on June 2, 1943, in Brookshire, Texas, Dorothy was a kind-hearted soul who touched the lives of many throughout her journey.
Dorothy was born to Lillie Bell Sampson and Phillip Jackson Jr., and she spent her formative years in San Angelo, Texas. She graduated from Central High School, where her love for music flourished as she sang in the choir. Dorothy had begun training to be a nurse but had to stop due to illness. Despite this, she played a crucial role in helping her mother run the Black and White Café, where she further developed her love for community and service.
Dorothy was a devoted family woman. She had three children and was also privileged to have raised three of her nieces and nephews. Her love for her family was evident in the joy she found in watching, playing, and cheering during family game nights.
A proud member of the Crenshaw Memorial Independent Methodist Church, Dorothy's involvement in her community was central to her life. Her warmth and kindness were felt by all who knew her. She had a notorious sweet tooth and is remembered fondly for having never met a snack she didn't like.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Michelle Sampson and Anesia Sampson; her sister Nickey Grady; her nephews Joseph Clay and Jerome Grady; a nieces Angela Grady and Vanessa Deveaux; her grandchildren, Laila Sampson, Kaleb Carroll, Keason Thorne, Kadin Weldon, Krisjian Weldon, Olivia Weldon, Letrece Sampson, Jaquori Clay, Asija Clay, Josiah Clay, and Christopher Igwe; her great granddaughter Ameria; alongside a host of Sampson family in Houston, Jackson family in Brookshire, and Walker family in San Angelo.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Lillie Bell Sampson and Phillip Jackson Jr., her brother Freeman Sampson and his wife Lillian Sampson, her son Christopher Craig Sampson, and her niece Sonja Sampson.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on October 18, 2025, at 10:00 am at Advantage Funeral and Cremation Services, located at 7010 Chetwood, Houston, TX 77081.
Dorothy's legacy of kindness, family devotion, and community spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
