

He was the son of a pioneer oilman, James Earle Freeman, Sr. and Mary LouisTooke Freeman. He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on the 9th of August 1927, and moved to Houston at an early age.
Earle attended Lamar High School where he was a Colonel of Cadets with the ROTC program and graduated from Allen Military Academy in Bryan, Texas as First Captain. He attended the University of Texas in Austin then, after a short enlistment in the United States Army as a paratrooper with the 11th
Airborne Division, he received a hardship discharge to return home to care for his mother and sister and attended the University of Houston and entered into the oil and gas industry where he spent the rest of his career.
His adventures took him on numerous trips including Africa where he took several world-class trophies. He was a former director of the Houston Safari Club and member for over 30 years.
In 1950 he married Margie Morrow. They were married for 71 years and had four children, James Earle Freeman III (preceded in death), Edward Morrow Freeman, Michael Lee Freeman (wife Karen), Christina Freeman Vossman; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A memorial service and celebration of the life of James Earle Freeman, Jr. is to be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 20th of April, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
Prior to the service, the family will gather for a private interment.
