

Betty was born September 3, 1940, in Alice, Texas, to Robert Gibson and Edith Almond and was a long-time resident of Houston, Texas. She graduated from William Adams High School in Alice and went on to graduate from Texas A&I in Kingsville. Subsequently she obtained a Med Tech degree from Herman Hospital in Houston in 1963.
She married Jimmy D Harp in 1963 and moved to Florida where she worked in various hospitals including Shands Teaching Hospital at the University of Florida. She and Jimmy moved to Houston in 1986 where she joined MD Anderson Cancer Hospital as blood bank supervisor before retiring in 2003.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bobby, and sisters Dorothy and Nancy. She leaves behind her devoted husband of over 61 years Jimmy, daughters Carolyn and Susan, son-in-law Rajiv, grandsons Christopher, Anjan, Michael, Joshua and Morgan, nieces Monica and Amy, and nephews Brad and Chris.
She was an inspiration to us all and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at the Eagles Trace Long Term Care facility that cared for her in the final years of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Betty’s name to the Women & Family Development Center, Star of Hope, Houston, Texas.
