Edna E. Carter

Edna Earl Carter, 96, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on December 13, 1928, in Shelbyville, Texas, to Robert W. Cordray and Mary Elizabeth “Lizzie” Strong Cordray.

Edna married the love of her life, John L. Carter, and together they shared 69 years of marriage. They made their home on Marlborough Street, where they spent 66 years building a life surrounded by family and great neighbors.

Edna worked for 32 years as an accountant with Southwestern Bell. She was determined, sharp, and took pride in doing things the right way. Her strong will and attention to detail carried through every part of her life.

As the oldest of three sisters, Edna was the steady center of her family. She had a quiet way of leading, always keeping things on track and looking after those she loved. Though she and John did not have children, she cared deeply for her family and found immense joy in being part of her nieces’ and nephews’ lives.

Edna was steady, loyal, and deeply devoted to the people she loved. Her determination and strength shaped her family in countless ways and will be deeply missed and always remembered.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert W. and Mary Elizabeth “Lizzie” Cordray; and her sister, Lovereen Yarborough, and husband, Joe.

She is survived by her husband, John L. Carter; her sister, Janell Daniels, and husband, Tom; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Our family would like to thank all of the caregivers who supported Edna over the past few years. We are especially grateful to Caroline Struggs, Tamara Thomas, and the wonderful teams at Brookdale The Heights and Village of The Heights.

A visitation will be held at Pat H. Foley & Company, located at 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018, on October 10, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm.

Following the visitation, a memorial service will take place at the same venue from 7:15 pm to 8:00 pm.
