Edward Hudson Baird passed away on the 7th of June 2012. He was born in Houston, Texas on the 16th of August 1943, the son of John Barnett Baird and Mildred Bennett Baird. Edward received his primary and secondary education at The Kinkaid School and had been an active alum and long time supporter of the school. He began college at Tulane University, earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin and his MBA degree at Texas Tech University. He spent the majority of his working career with First City National Bank, where he served as President of two branch banks, and retired after 20 years of service. He spent his later years as a financial consultant and oil and gas investor.
Edward truly loved his family and wide circle of friends that he kept up with from all stages of his life. He loved sports, whether playing as a youngster, coaching his children, cheering on his grandchildren or rooting on the Texas Longhorns from his couch or the stadium. He served many years with the Post Oak Little League as Board member, coach and parent. Edward also had a passion for hunting and fishing. He was a long time member of the St. Charles Bay Hunting Club, where he shared his love of duck hunting and trout fishing with his children and friends. He also spent many a weekend on deer leases in South Texas telling stories around the fire and searching for a trophy buck. When he wasn’t enjoying the great outdoors, he spent time playing golf and visiting with friends at the Houston Country Club. Edward was also a long time member of Houston’s Allegro Club and St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, where he served as a member of the Vestry.
One of his greatest joys late in life was his five granddaughters, ages 5 to 11, who blessed him with their love, silliness and special hugs. His kindness and attention will surely leave an indelible mark of which he would be proud.
Edward is survived by his devoted and loving wife Patricia Parker Baird, who was a constant source of support and companionship throughout their marriage. He is also survived by the mother of his children Betty Divine; his son, Lance Hudson Baird, and wife Dameron Peaster Baird; his daughter, Eileen Baird Askew, and husband Rick Askew; his son, John Barnett Baird II; his two stepdaughters, Callie Ann Parker and Amy Parker Beeson, and her husband Michael Lander Beeson; his granddaughters, Elizabeth Baird, Susan Baird, Emma Baird, Olivia Askew, and Rebecca Askew. He is also survived by his brother John Barnett Baird III, and wife Jane Herring; his sister Tamara Baird Dyer, and husband Pat Taylor Dyer; and many nieces and nephews.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother, the late Richard Morris Baird.
