We celebrate the life of Elizabeth Kimbro Dott, a devout Christian, a devoted wife, and a loving mother. She was the constant companion, partner, and equal to her husband, J. B. Dott, Sr. While in nursing school she met J.B. during his service in the Army Air Corp during WWII. After getting married, they moved to Houston where she worked tirelessly with her husband to manage two grocery stores and eventually began to branch out into general construction, insurance, real estate, and property development and management. Kimbro served as an invaluable supporter, confidant, and advisor. Vivacious, extroverted, and never having met a stranger, she excelled at networking in real estate and in the community and quickly drew recognition for her outstanding efforts. Active in the Texas Association of Realtors she helped shape the real estate laws governing ethics and arbitration. During her realtor career she served as President of Women’s Council of Realtors (WCR), Houston chapter and was chosen WCR Woman of the year 1981 and became a Life Member of the Realtors Political Action Committee.
Kimbro had a full schedule with the various businesses, but she always found time for family, church, and community service. The Texas Senate honored her with Texas Resolution #202 and she received a Certificate of Recognition from the Shriner’s Burn Institute in Galveston. Active in the Chinese Baptist Church as a charter member, she organized the church’s first nursery, organized the Chinese Women’s Missionary Union and served as the charter president, and actively supported multiple Christian ministries. Her faith in Christ was unshakeable.
Kimbro was born in San Antonio, Texas and was raised in San Antonio and China in her formative years. She was married 70 years to J. B., Sr maintaining an admirable love for each other, and together they raised four children: two physicians, a dentist, and an insurance executive. She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands Peggy and John Preston, Sharon and David Cross, and Kathy and Doug Denby; son J. B. Dott, Jr; grandchildren Daltry Dott, J.B. Dott, III (Trey) and his wife Eriko, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Preston, Krissy Denby, and Lauren Dott; and her great granddaughter Emily Gonzales. Being the ultimate tiger mom, she accepted nothing less than excellence and built her reputation on trust, dedication, honesty, and hard work, never taking the shortcut while always exuding love and kindness to all that she met. We celebrate her life and her contributions.
