

Betty was raised in Mexico where her father had business interests, including Irapuato, Guanajuato and Saltillo, Coahuila. She died on the 7th of October 2010 in Houston, where she lived for seventy years.
Mrs. Karotkin was educated in Mexico and Kentucky, and graduated from Raymond and Tirza Martin High School in Laredo, Texas in 1939. She was a proud graduate of the School of Nursing at Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston, class of 1943. While working at the hospital, she met Dr. Lester Karotkin. He told her on their first date that he was going to marry her, and he sold his beloved camera to buy her engagement ring. They married on the 18th of December 1943, and were devoted to each other until his death on the 27th of August 2010.
Mrs. Karotkin was active in her neighborhood garden club, her children’s school, and as a docent for many years at the Houston Museum of Health & Medical Science. She was a member of River Oaks Baptist Church.
Mrs. Karotkin is survived by son, Don Karotkin and wife Kathy; daughter Jane Karotkin; grandchildren, John W. Karotkin, D.D.S. and wife Alyssa, Emily Karotkin Parsons and husband Jacob, and Kirk Campbell; brother, William J. Davis and wife Beverly; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful to Dr. Kelty Baker, the medical and nursing staffs of The Methodist Hospital, and Mary Wofford for their kind and compassionate care of Mrs. Karotkin during her last months.
A family memorial service is planned for a future date.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that donations in Elizabeth’s memory be directed to the Museum of Health & Medical Science, 1515 Hermann Drive, Houston, TX 77004.
