Elizabeth was born on July 13, 1917 in Mobile, Alabama, to Harry Sommers Wolfe, Sr. and Mabel Hall Wolfe. She was known to everyone by her nickname, Betty. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, her siblings, Mary, Harry, Wyatt (her twin), her great granddaughter, Elise DeFord, and her beloved son-in-law Fred W. Lang. She left us to join them on November 1, 2020 in Houston, Texas. She married Charles Wellington Neagle in 1937 in Mobile, Alabama. They resided in Greenville, S.C., Charlotte, N.C., and Richmond, VA., before settling in Houston, Texas. Following his death in 1973 she traveled frequently and said she had been to 21 countries around the world. She made friends wherever she went.
Following retirement from St. Luke’s Hospital after years of service, she volunteered at the hospital for 28 years and logged over 9000 hours.
Mother was small in stature, barely 5 feet in later years, but big in every other way. She was funny and wise and had a great sense of humor. She accomplished too many things to enumerate here. She liked to say “you can do anything you’re big enough to do.”
Elizabeth is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth N. Lang and Jane N. DeFord and husband Ken, 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews including one special niece who was like a daughter, Mary K. Halfhill. We are blessed to have had her so long, and she will be missed every day.
A graveside service will be held on November 9th at noon at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway. Reception to follow. Please remember masks and distancing. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your favorite charity.
