

Ellis Ray Bennett, 87, of Houston loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother went home to be with his Lord on Monday, June 3, 2013. Ellis was born on December 16, 1925 in Ozona, Texas. After graduation from high school in Stanton, Texas in 1943, he attended the University of Texas at Austin from 1943 to 1944. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 during World War II at Panama. He went on to graduate from the University of Texas in 1948 with a degree in Biology. Ellis was employed with Shell Oil Company at the Westhollow Research Center in west Houston as a laboratory technician for 29 years and retired in 1986. Also, Ellis was self-employed as a real estate broker for over 25 years and sold farms and ranches in the Schulenburg area. Ellis enjoyed working with his limousine cattle he had on his farm in Schulenburg and painted landscape paintings as hobbies. Ellis loved his immediate family and his church family and will be remembered for his generosity and willingness to do good works for the church. He was a member of the Memorial Church of Christ for over forty years and participated in many 39er’s meetings with his wife Eunice.
Ellis was preceded by his parents, Raymond Arthur Bennett and Hettie Zelda Atchison Bennett. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Betty Carroll Hickman and husband Fred Pete Hickman, brother John T. Bennett and wife Norma Bennett, and his loving son Hiram Moody Bennett and wife Melanie Bennett, and devoted granddaughters Emily Jane and Meghan Ruth Bennett.
Visitation will be at 2PM followed by the service at 3PM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home 13001 Katy Freeway Houston, Texas 77079 on Saturday June 8,2013 . In lieu of flowers, donations to Memorial Church of Christ would be greatly appreciated.
