Born in Louisville, Kentucky, she moved to Weston, Connecticut in her teens and
attended the Low-Heywood School and Smith College.
Mr. and Mrs. Postma moved to Marianna in 1948 and lived at Hickory Hill Farm until his
death in 2010. In her early years in Marianna, Emily was active in the Junior Woman’s Club,
the P.T.A. and Cub Scouts. She was one of the founders of the Unitarian Fellowship of
Marianna in which she served in various capacities. In her later years, Emily was active in
support of the Jackson County Public Library. She served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees
at its inception and remained on the Board for fourteen years.
Mrs. Postma is survived by her five children, Dr. Jan H. Postma, Jr., of Spartanburg,
S.C., Dr. Duncan Postma of Tallahassee, FL, Dr. Tom Postma of Dallas, TX, Nancy Postma
Baxley of Houston, TX, and Dr. Michael Postma of Columbus, GA; fifteen grandchildren; four
great grandchildren; a half-sister; and a half-brother.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from half past one until half
past three o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 15th of March, in the parlor of Geo. H. Lewis
& Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to the
Jackson County Florida Library Memorial Book Fund in Marianna, FL or to the American
Cancer Society.
