Emma Irene Anderau Campbell, age 103 passed away in Houston, Texas on Wednesday, November 9, 2011. She was born in Montgomery, Texas in 1908 to George and Dora Shipp. She moved to Houston when she married in 1926 and Houston remained her beloved home for more than eight decades. Emma was a member of the Woodmen of the World Insurance Association and avidly enjoyed their annual outings. She was a devoted housewife and mother and spent her lifetime raising her children and enjoying her family. Emma loved family and friends. Her home was always a stopping-off place, and she was happiest when entertaining her family and friends and cooking for them. She was a marvelous cook; her dishes were well-loved by everyone. In her earlier years, Emma enjoyed embroidering and made many beautiful scarves, pillowcases and bedspread. She also treasured crocheted items and quilts. She was a devout Christian, went to church regularly when she could, read her Bible faithfully and often quoted verses applicable to the topic at hand. Emma’s greatest love and passion, after her family, was fishing. She loved the outdoors and spent every moment she possibly could with a fishing pole and any water she could find. She knew the art of fishing and was quite adept at catching fish. She could “persuade” a fish to bite her hook when no one else was having any luck. Emma was fortunate to experience a variety of history-making events during her lifetime. As a child, she had to walk everywhere she went. Her first means of travel was the horse-and-buggy. Then she experienced the advent of the automobile, along with all the great amenities like indoor plumbing, electricity, television, etc. Her long life span also enabled her to experience the wonders of space travel with a man on the moon and space shuttles. Emma is preceded in death by her parents, George and Dora Shipp; her first husband of 33 years, Alex Anderau; her second husband of ten years, Jim Campbell; her children, John and James Anderau and seven siblings. She is survived by grandchildren, Jimmie Anderau, Jr. and Tammy Anderau Aleunemah; three great-grandchildren and numerous friends, nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. The family will be available for visitation on Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Pat H. Foley & Co. Graveside Services will be held as 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2011 at Rosewood Memorial Park in Humble, Texas.
