

Emmett Sutton III, 78 was called to his eternal home in Christ on April 25, 2014. Emmett was born in Queens, New York on November 13, 1935. He graduated from Marietta College in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering. He was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. After graduation, he worked at Continental Oil Company in Wichita Falls, Texas. In 1963 he went to worked for Ashland Exploration in Columbus, Ohio, eventually being transferred to Houston, Texas in 1966. He was a member of The Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineering, Professional Engineers of Oklahoma, National Society of Professional Engineers and Texas Society of Professional Engineers. He retired from Ashland Exploration in 1994 as a reservoir engineer.
He met his wife Susan on a blind date arranged by mutual friends attending the Show-Boat on the Ohio River. In their younger years, Emmett and Susan enjoyed getting together with high school friends and college classmates. He also played college soft ball.
As a young man, Emmett enjoyed fishing on the Ohio River with his father. Later he liked cycling, tennis, running and volunteering at the Center, teaching adults with Down’s Syndrome the art of chair caning. He enjoyed traveling to California and sight seeing up and down the Pacific Coast with his wife Susan. He was a faithful member of Christ the Servant Lutheran Church for 25 years.
Emmett was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett Sutton, Jr., Margaret Nelson Sutton, and his son-in- law, Brentley Taylor. He is survived by his loving wife Susan of 58 years: children; Brian Sutton and wife Fern, Karen Taylor; 5 grandchildren – Hannah Sutton & Rian Sutton of Beaumont, , Stefanie Cavalcanti of Brazil, Nick Cavalcanti of Beaumont and Carson Taylor of Katy.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May13, 2014, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at 12:30 p.m., at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
