Miss Essence Monet Peoples was born August 16,1995 to Vanessa Phifer and Jessie Peoples. Essence was a very loving, caring and giving young lady who had a heart of gold and a countenance that could light up the world. Essence touched so many lives throughout her lifespan here on earth. She had many friends and family who loved her dearly. Essence had a special love for animals and her favorite sport was volleyball.
While here on earth she received several awards such as the National Honors Society Award, and was part of the national gifted and talented program. She also received several awards for arts and poetry. She was awarded the African American Write-up award at the Merrell Center in Katy, TX, among several other awards. She graduated from Pflugerville High school at the age of 16 with honors. From there, she went on to attend the University of Houston in pursuit of a medical degree that would enable her to help others, especially children who suffered from various health conditions.
Essence suffered from Type 1 diabetes which led to a host of other illnesses. But in spite of it all, she “fought a good fight and she kept the faith”, especially in the latter years of her life when she surrendered her life to Christ at the tender age of 24, in October 2019. It is no coincidence that she went home in the same month that she got saved. And although we will miss her presence on this earth, we are so joyful that she is now free of all pain and suffering.
Essence transitioned from time to eternity on October 24, 2021. She leaves to cherish her memories: parents, Vanessa Phifer (Robert) and Jessie Peoples (Kenyatta); four siblings: Brandon L. Peoples, Jazzmin V. Peoples, Jordyn K. Peoples and Kaelyn J. Peoples; grandmother: Carolyn Martin-Lewis. Also left to cherish her memory a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.
A visitation for Essence will be held Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Paradise Funeral Home, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. A graveside service will occur Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Littig Cemetery, 11241 Bitting School Road, Elgin, TX 78621.
