

Etta Eugenie Kiern Pedneau was born on January 27, 1914 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her parents were Lawrence Kiern and Ella Rabb Kiern. She had two brothers, Lawrence and Theodore, who were 10 and 12 years younger.
As a child she attended McDonough #16 school. In 1927 Etta completed training in violin at Points College of Music. She then played the violin in church where there was no pianist. As a young woman Etta worked at, Maison Blanche, a department store in downtown New Orleans, Louisiana.
Etta and William Francis Pedneau, Sr. met when he came to her family’s home to repair a radio. They married on September 1, 1936. They had three children: William F. Pedneau, Jr, Alfred L. Pedneau, Sr. and Cherry Pedneau Posey. Etta has seven grandchildren, Alfred L. Pedneau, Jr, Adrianne L. Pedneau, Andrew L. Pedneau and his wife, Amy, Jeffrey W. Pedneau and wife Rebecca, Michael D. Pedneau, Kenneth D. Posey, III, and wife Kathryn, William D. Posey, Sr. and wife Michelle: nine great-grandchildren; Cody M. Pedneau, Brady A. Pedneau, Mandy L. Pedneau, Jeremy W. Pedneau, Andrew D. Pedneau, Kathryn M. Pedneau, William D. Posey, Jr., Mia G. Posey and Benjamin J. Posey. Nephews: Lawrence I. Kiern and wife Karen and Stephen T. Kiern and wife Margaret.
Etta Kiern Pedneau was an active member of Order of Eastern Star. She and her mother joined Metairie Ridge Chapter O.E.S. No. 169 in Metairie, Louisiana in 1944. Etta is Past Matron of Fairhope Chapter O.E.S. No. 127, Fairhope, Alabama and Starlight Chapter O.E.S. No. 421 Stone Mountain, Georgia. She continues to be a member Emeritus.
In 1953 Etta graduated from Rabouin Vocational School in New Orleans, Louisiana receiving a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification. Etta worked as a Private Duty Nurse at Mercy Hospital, Tulane University Student Infirmary and for Dr. Isaac Kline, the retired Meteorologist of Galveston, Texas.
Etta and William loved to travel in their small recreational vehicle, RV. They especially enjoyed traveling to National Parks. They traveled to Yellowstone National Park and The Great Smokey Mountain National Park. They also traveled to Niagara Falls, Shenandoah Valley and Skyline Drive, Blue Ridge Parkway, Natural Bridge, Mount Vernon, Williamsburg, Virginia and Washington D.C. Once while in New York City, Etta and William walked across the Brooklyn Bridge together.
In 1973, after living in New Orleans and Metairie, Louisiana for 60 years, Etta moved to Fairhope, Alabama. Etta moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia in 1983. Moving to Cypress, Texas in 2005, she would often say “the move to Texas was the beginning of a new adventure and had she known how much she would like Texas, she would have moved here sooner.”
At Lakewood United Methodist Church, “Miss Etta”, as she is fondly known, is an original member of The Gathering Place and has been active in Prayers and Squares Ministry and Serendipity Adult Ministry. Miss Etta volunteered at the annual UMW Garage Sale where she was known as the oldest volunteer.
A Memorial Service will be held at Lakewood United Methodist Church on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 1:30 pm. with Reverend Holly Wilson officiating. A reception will follow in Founder’s Court. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Lakewood United Methodist Church, Matthew 25:35 Food Pantry.
Interment will be at Masonic Cemetery, #2, in New Orleans, Louisiana at a later date.
