Homer & Helena Armstrong in Hungerford Texas. She was the fifth
of six children and extremely close to her siblings Koots Tolliver, LA
Armstrong, Clara Armstrong Marks, Carl “Sonny” Armstrong &
Homer “Buddy” Armstrong until their deaths. Fannie was a graduate
of Boiling Vocational High School and proceeded to obtain her
Certified Nursing Certificate. She worked for Memorial Herman
Hospital for many years before deciding to become a full-time home-
maker. Fannie loved the Lord; she was baptized at an early age and
accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She shared her love
for God with her children, grandchildren and whomever she
encountered. Instilling in them to always look to Him for every
season in life.
Fannie married the love of her life, Jimmy Plummer on April 19, 1961.
They recently celebrated a phenomenal 63 years of marriage. Her
husband was the apple of her eye and we were all fortunate to
witness true love through the life they shared. From their union,
generations have been blessed. Fannie’s heart of gold in conjunction
with Jimmy’s led them to unselfishly give to anyone in need. Their
pastimes included spending time with one another, family and
catching the latest and greatest Lee Williams & The Spiritual QC’s
concert. Fannie loved getting dressed to the nines and showing up
with her “good lookin” husband. She was a devoted wife and if you
know Fannie, you know that she’s taken good care of Jimmy beyond
her final days. Together, Fannie and Jimmy raised their sons, Elbert
“Bert” Cleon Roberts & Carl Winston “Winn” Roberts Sr.
Affectionately known as Mu-dear, the love between her and her sons
was simply indescribable. There is nothing in this world that they
would not do for Mu-dear and vice versa. From her two sons, Fannie
was catapulted into her next favorite role, Grandma. Weekends in her
home tended to be filled with her grandchildren, summers included a
family reunion trip to Wharton and just randomly going to the
country for some quality time with family. Fannie LOVED music.
Gospel music radiated through the house on Sunday mornings and
the afternoons likely included one of Fannie’s homemade
hamburgers and soda while watching TV together. As her
grandchildren grew into adults, there’s always been an expectation
for one or more of them to stop by and check in on Grandma &
Granddaddy at any given moment.
Fannie heard the gentle voice of the Lord calling her home the
morning of Friday, May 17, 2024. She is preceded in death by her
parents, her siblings, her son, Carl W. Roberts Sr. and grandson Carl
W. Roberts Jr. Her legacy of love & memory will be cherished by her
devoted husband, Jimmy; her son, Elbert, six granddaughters, four
grandsons, twenty-two great grandchildren, three great-great grand-
children, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
