

Faustino “Tino” Herrera, 73 years old, member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church of Houston, Texas, left us to live his eternal life in the beautiful Kingdom of Heaven on Good Friday, April 10, 2020. He was born in McAllen, Texas on February 15, 1947 to Pablo Fernando and Susana Herrera. He was their eldest son. Growing up, he worked with his father in their family bakeries and spent time with his seven siblings. After graduating from McAllen High School, he served three years in the United States Army during Vietnam and the Korean Conflict where he worked on Hawk Missiles and Launch Maintenance. For his service, he was honored with the National Defense Service Medal, the Expert-Rifle Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
Tino was married to the love of his life Ernestina “Tina” Herrera for 52 years. Together, they enjoyed traveling, eating out (steak), dancing, and spending time with their family. His favorite music was Trio and Tejano music. He was a romantic who loved surprising his wife with roses. He also enjoyed watching his favorite team “The Dallas Cowboys.” Anyone that knew him knew how much he loved winning big at the casino, drinking a cold beer and getting scratch off tickets.
After moving his family to Houston, Tino worked laying tile, putting up wallpaper and as a mechanic. He was a “Master” setter, but he made his career with Central Freight Lines as a diesel mechanic where he worked for over 25 years. He was a hard worker and always willing to help family, friends and even strangers.
Faustino is preceded by his parents and his sister, Oralia Avila. He is survived by his children: Jaime Herrera, Joel Herrera, Christel Herrera-Ontiveros and Juan Ontiveros (his son-in-law); grandchildren: Danielle Herrera, Victoria Ontiveros, Celeste Herrera, Sarah Ontiveros and Jordan Herrera; great-granddaughter: Madilyn Ontiveros; siblings: Esteban Herrera, Francisco Herrera, Fernando Herrera, Alfredo Herrera, Aurora Medina and Jaime Herrera and many nieces and nephews.
