Florence Jamail Nakfoor, age 87, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Monday, the 31st of October 2016. A native Houstonian, Florence was born to Joseph Dahr Jamail, Sr. and Marie Antone Jamail on the 30th of April 1929. Being the only girl with four brothers taught her how to navigate the world with wit and charm.
Florence attended Incarnate Word Academy in Houston. Later, while attending the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, she met Emil Nakfoor, who was stationed at Randolph Air Force Base. Florence and Emil were married on the 28th of December 1950 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Houston. Florence had a beautiful life with her be-loved husband, and they enjoyed traveling the world with family and friends. Florence and Emil were a perfect pair, and they were inseparable until his passing in 2010, making for 59 joyful years.
As a result of her family's grocery business, Florence grew up with a love of cooking and going to the farmers’ market in search of the season’s freshest produce. She was especially famous for her Lebanese food and banana cake. Dinner and prayers were at 6:00 pm sharp every night for Emil and her five children. In later years, the family continued the tradition with grandchildren by gathering at Nana’s every Sunday for dinner.
A look into her daily routine would include mass to nourish her soul, fellowship with friends, monitoring the stock mar-ket, participating in various volunteer opportunities, and watching that evening’s sporting event. Beauty, as Nak her husband called her, will be missed for her clever independent way of thinking, while always maintaining true grace and elegance.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marie Jamail; her husband, Emil A. Nakfoor; her brothers, George Jamail, Joseph D. Jamail, Jr., and Emile Jamail. She is survived by her brother, William Jamail; her children, Tere-sa N. Johnston and husband Aaron, Karen M. Nakfoor, Bruce E. Nakfoor and wife Wendy, Ann N. Snodgrass and hus-band Kevin, and James M. Nakfoor and wife Alix; her eleven grandchildren who knew her as Nana; Timothy Johnston and wife Melissa, Chris Johnston and wife Lindy, Christin S. Brown and husband Wilson, Kevin Snodgrass, John Snod-grass, Megan Snodgrass, James Nakfoor, Jr., Ellie Nakfoor, William Nakfoor, Grey Nakfoor, and Garrett Nakfoor; and her five great grandchildren, Amelia, Luke, Matthew, Flannery, and Raleigh Johnston.
The Memorial Mass is to be offered at half past ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 4th of November at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston, where the Rev. Daniel Lahart, S.J., a long time family friend, will serve as celebrant.
Prior to the service, the family will gather for a private interment and graveside service at Forest Park Westheimer Cem-etery.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Mrs. Nakfoor’s memory may be directed to St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road, Houston, Texas 77056 or Strake Jesuit Foundation, 8900 Bellaire Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77036.
