Florence Cleo Wright

Florence was born March 22, 1945 in Rodessa, LA to Stanford and Alice Reid. She was the 8th of 10 children. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School of Shreveport, LA in 1963 and moved to Houston, TX shortly afterwards. She married Willie L. Wright Jr and to this union had two children, Fleche Y. Riley and Roderick E. Wright.

Florence worked as a supervisor of Maintenance and Operations for Humble ISD and retired June 1, 2014. Florence was an amazing seamstress and could sew stunning dresses and quick stitch anything. She enjoyed cooking and made the best gumbo and shrimp creole. Florence loved to dance and could cut a rug on the dance floor. She enjoyed playing dominoes and catching a good game.

Family was important to Florence and she looked out for everyone. She was a strong woman with a big heart and would give her last. Florence was also full of sass and spice and had no problem telling anyone about themselves.

We will miss Florence dearly, but we are so grateful for the time we had to spend with her. We will always feel her presence in our hearts. Florence is preceded in death by her parents: Stanford and Alice Reid, brothers: Theo Reid, Leo Reid, Purvis Reid, and Stanford Marshall Reid, sisters: Bertha Jacobs, Waheedah Dawan, and Jeanette Reid.

Florence is survived by her sisters: Ruthie Dent (Belton) and Beatrice Ivory, children: Fleche Riley (Christopher) Roderick Wright (Erica), grandchildren: Takeshia Jewett (Terrell), Denicey Sharp, Christopher Riley Jr. (Keria), nine great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, and friends.

A graveside service for Florence will be held Monday, October 31, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039, followed by a burial from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM.
