

Foncyne Attended South Plains College and Texas Tech University and
worked as a Service representative for Southwestern Bell and A T & T for over 20 years.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Marjorie Jones, and father,
Cecil Raymond Jones, her brothers, Robert Raymond Jones and Larry Don
Jones. Also preceding her is Wesley Neil Brownd, husband of 19 years
and George John Mapes, husband of 29 years.
She is survived by her children, Linda Berthelsen and her husband
Spencer Berthelsen, M.D., Robert Brownd and his wife, Theresa, Jeanie Gale and her husband, Michel Gale, and Patrick Brownd and his wife,Julie Bargones.
Foncyne was known as many things to many people.
She was a talented seamstress. Foncyne created clothes for her
children and grand children. She made quilts and costumes for FUMC
pageants, including a Frosty the Snowman costume for George that he
wore in a Christmas pageant.
She was known as ‘The Gardener’ in and around FUMC for more than 25 years. Foncyne directed many growing seasons of vegetables for thousands of pounds of food for Inter-faith ministries, which is a
resource for Fort Bend County’s needy families.
She was a naturalist, a camper, an explorer, a hiker and fisherwoman, and she was devoted to the church, United Methodist Women and the choir.
She was a loving care taker for George and her brother Larry.
She is also survived by her grandchildren,
Linda’s Kids Kathryn Berthelsen, Alice May Berthelsen
Bob’s Kids; Megan Brownd Stanley and her husband Ben Stanley, Robert Brownd II
Jeanie’s kids: Crysany Collins, Bradley Gale.
Graveside services and internment will be held in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery at 10 am, followed by a Memorial Services in the First United Methodist Church of Sugar Land, 431 Eldridge Road, 11:30 am Monday, November 8
2010.
Anyone wishing to make a donation in lieu of flowers may send donations to the ‘The Foncyne Mapes Garden Fund’ where a bench will be placed in the garden in her honor.
