Frankie Robert McIntosh was born at home in Anderson, Texas on February 23, 1936 to Robert L. McIntosh and wife Bernice Kolojacko McIntosh.
Frankie was the youngest of seven children born to his parents, growing up alongside his brothers Louis and Adam, and his sisters Eve—Adam’s twin who died at birth—Lucille, Christine, who passed away at age three, and Victoria. The family lived the life of sharecroppers, raising cotton, corn, hay, and high gear. Sundays were often spent gathered at Aunt Mary’s home, where the children formed lifelong bonds with their Smith cousins. When Frankie was nearly nine, his mother passed away, and with his father working in Houston, he went to live with his mother’s sister, Mary, and her husband, Will Smith, whose nine children welcomed him as an “adopted” brother. In time, Frankie’s father remarried and had two more sons, Lawrence and Richard, expanding the circle of siblings who shaped the family story that surrounded Frankie throughout his life.
Frankie attended Anderson public schools and graduated from Anderson High School in 1955. He then enlisted in the Army in 1956, where he served as a Lance Corporal until his obligation in the Reserve was complete in 1962.
Around January 1959, Frankie met Lucille Virginia Zabawa, and after dating for 1 ½ years, they married on June 18, 1960, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Houston. To this union were born 2 sons: Stephen Gerard McIntosh and Frankie Robert “Toby” McIntosh Jr.
In the early years, Frankie and Lucille would go to Bill Mraz Ballroom, as well as the Esquire Ballroom, to enjoy dancing. He was also an extremely talented handyman and always willing to help with construction-related projects, especially for his sister, Lucille, and her family members. And he absolutely loved the outdoors - so much so, that he built a summer cabin for his family in Willis.
Frankie lived in the same home in Houston from 1964 until 2025, when he moved to The Holiday Greens Assisted Living Facility. He truly enjoyed his time there and was surrounded by kind, loving care. He worked for many years driving a truck for a uniform delivery service, and later became self-employed, managing several vending machines until his retirement.
Frankie was a member of St. Ambrose, and his Catholic faith was important to him. Even though near the end of his life he could no longer attend Mass, he would receive the Eucharist weekly and prayed the Rosary daily.
Frankie was proceeded in death by his parents: Robert and Bernice; siblings: Louis Ben McIntosh, Adam Joseph McIntosh, infant Eve, Lucille Helen McIntosh Gubas, Christine McIntosh, and Victoria Agnes McIntosh Wilganowski. Also by his half-brothers: Robert Lawrence McIntosh and Raymond Richard McIntosh.
Frankie is survived by his 2 sons: Stephen McIntosh, and Toby (Sharon) McIntosh. Also by his 10 grandchildren: Nicholas McIntosh, Brent McIntosh, Keith McIntosh, Troy McIntosh, Brooke McIntosh, Ashley Davis (Richard), Ashley Daniel (Josh), Megan Rush (Jeremy), Krista McIntosh, and Kacie McIntosh. And by his 13 great-grandchildren: Alex McIntosh; Jacie, Jacob and Jackson McIntosh; Peyton, Kendall and Shelby Davis; Haily and Hudson Daniel; Kiley, Rylan and Preslie Atkinson; Easton Wilhelm.
He is further survived by his Smith “siblings”: Clara Walkoviak, JoAnn (Bernes) Borski, Francis (Thomas) Kowis, and Carolynn Katkoski; and special Gubas nieces: Elizabeth Wisniewski, Doris Boudreaux, and Bonnie Holub; and by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who all loved their Uncle Frankie very much!
