Freda was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia; her parent’s Romy and Iva Casto, and her oldest brother Dr. David Casto DDS, precede her in death. Freda is survived by her brother Ed Casto and wife Lucy Casto, sister Virginia Payne and husband Kenny Payne, brother Jim Casto and wife Lynda Casto, brother Gary Casto and numerous nieces and nephews as well as many great nieces and nephews and a few great great nieces and nephews. Freda was a loving sister and a very special aunt and a wonderful friend to so many.
Freda was a child of the Lord and accepted him as her savior at a very young age.
When Freda was in her 20’s she moved to Texas and went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Houston to become a part of their telephone operations department for several years before moving on to a management position at the Shamrock Hilton in downtown Houston where she managed the telephone operations department, she was with them for about 10 years. Shortly before the Shamrock Hilton was closed down and demolished she went to work for the Veteran’s Hospital (the VA) in Houston as the chief operator of the telephone communications department. Freda retired from the VA after 20 some years.
During her telephone operator career she was very active with the PBX Club (Private Branch Exchange Operator), volunteered at KPRC T.V. Station for telethons as well as many of The Jerry Lewis Telethons just to name a few.
Retirement did not slow Freda down at all; she continued to be very active doing the things she loved to do Square Dancing, Canvas Oil Painting, playing Bingo (playing many cards at a time), and playing card games with friends for hours at a time. She loved being retired, keeping busy and enjoyed just chatting with friends having coffee and cookies……any senior activity that was happening Freda was there!
Freda spent her last year and a half in a nursing facility due to mild healthcare needs however living in a facility did not slow her down at all she still continued to play bingo, catch the weekly bus to go shopping at Wal-Mart and any other daily activity that was offered.
God has blessed her life with 87 years of happiness and a lot of love from her family and friends and as we all know she has certainly blessed our lives.
Freda passed away at Scott & White Hospital in College Station on Saturday July 4, 2015 with her family at her side. She was a servant of the Lord and we know she is now home with him watching over all of us.
