Freddie G. Heavner, 77, of Cypress, Texas, passed away at home on Monday, February 26th, 2024. Freddie was born August 22, 1946 in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Howard and Josephine (Thomey) Heavner. A graduate of New Kensington High School, Freddie joined the Army Reserve from 1966-71, then went on to a successful lifelong career in sales. He spent many years selling his beloved Pontiacs and even homes before retiring.
In 1978 he met Janet Stover, who would become his wife of 42 years. Taking on the role of step-father to her children, Jeremy Weidenhof and Erika (Weidenhof) Hoffman, he moved the family from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Houston, Texas in 1984 after a brief stint in Tempe, Arizona. The greater Houston area would be home to the family for the rest of his life.
All who knew Freddie were always impressed with his stubbornness, humor, penchant for nicknames, and loyalty. He always kept his family and friends laughing even as he exasperated us all with his hard-headedness. He liked to do things his way, but part of that meant always working hard to ensure that his family was taken care of.
In recent years he enjoyed retirement, spending time with the grandchildren and Gracie, his late and much-loved pet dog, before declining health curtailed his mobility. His constant presence and unique humor will be greatly missed by us all.
Freddie is survived by his wife, Janet Heavner of Cypress, step-children Jeremy (Bernadette) Weidenhof of Houston, Erika (Pete) Hoffman of Houston and her children, beloved grandkids Jake and Marshall Hoffman; his siblings Howard (Debra) Heavner of Pennsylvania, Darlene (Sam) Hoffman of Pennsylvania, Nancy Soltes, of North Carolina, and Pamela (Robert) Zacharko of North Carolina, along with numerous neices and nephews. Freddie was pre-deceased in 2023 by his sister Gloria (Heavner) Brogan of Pennsylvania.
No service is planned.
