Frederic Glade Cheney

Frederic Glade Cheney, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on March 31st 2025, at the age of 72, surrounded by family in Houston, Texas. Born on April 14th, 1952, in Corning, New York, “Fred” was the son of David and Evelyn Cheney.

Fred's educational journey led him to Fort Schuyler Maritime College in Bronx, New York. His maritime field dedication and expertise propelled him into a successful career as a Captain for Exxon. After that, he held various positions within the maritime spectrum eventually bringing him to Houston, Texas until his retirement in 2023. His colleagues knew him as a man of great character, often the life of the party and a person who took pride in having all the answers.

Fred was not only a professional but also a man of many interests. He had a profound love for the sea and always longed to be out on a boat, embracing the freedom and beauty that the open water offered. He also found immense joy in spending time with his family, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Fred's journey through life was marked by love, passion, and an unwavering commitment to his family. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pat Cheney, whose memory will forever live in the hearts of those who knew them as a couple. They were married for 49 years, sharing a tight bond that was the foundation to their marriage. Together, they built a family and raised two successful sons, Scott and Ryan.

Fred’s family quickly expanded with the arrival of daughters-in-law, Marcia and Jeannie and shortly thereafter grandchildren, Declan and Maura. His eyes always lit up whenever he talked about his grandchildren, Declan and Maura. He cherished every moment spent with them, sharing stories, and laughter.

A visitation for Fred will be held Saturday, April 12th, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Texas Liberty Mausoleum Chapel at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079. A funeral service will occur immediately following the visitation hour at 2:00 PM. The family would like to thank the staff at StoneCreek of Copperfield Senior Living, Accredited Hospice of America and Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Cypress for the loving care given to Fred.
