Gail S. Goodrum

Barbara Gail Skelton Goodrum, 88, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017 in Cedar Park, Texas. Gail was born on May 11, 1929, in Brownsville, Texas to James R. and Aline Dodd Skelton. She was a little sister to Marinel Conway, and a big sister to Jamey Tanner. While she was a young girl, the family moved to Houston, Texas and graduated from Lamar High School. She graduated from Southwestern University in 1950 with a BBA and remained an active member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

Gail’s best friend and college roommate introduced her to James R Goodrum and they were married in 1951. They had a loving and long 61 year marriage before Jim’s passing. She was a loving mother to her only daughter, Barbara and her husband Henry Heil. She adored her two granddaughters, Allyson and Kendall Heil.

Jim and Gail moved to the Dallas area and later to Phoenix, Arizonia for a short time. When Jim retired, they moved back to the Dallas/Mckinney, Texas area to welcome their first grandchild. While living in McKinney, Gail was very active in the Chestnut Square Preservation Committee and served as secretary of the Coast Guard Auxillary. She was also active in the Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder in the Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church for many years and enjoyed her membership in several circle groups. Gail was proud of the many lifelong friends she made in the circle groups and the Fellowship Class at First Presbyterian Church in Houston.

Gail is survived by her daughter, Barbara, son-in-law, Henry Heil, two granddaughters, Allyson and Kendall Heil, sister Jamey Tanner, brother-in-law, Richard Tanner, sister-in-law, Beverly Goodrum and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara and her family desire to express their sincere thanks to Gail’s caregivers at Isle of Cedar Ridge for their devoted care. They express their deep gratitude to A-Med Hospice for their gentle care.

The graveside service for Gail is to be conducted at 1:00 PM, Friday, October, 6, 2017, at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX.
