Garnet was born to Aristides and Zulmira Gouveia of the Madeira Islands on May 9, 1918 on Ascension Thursday in Springfield Illinois. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1936. In the spring of 1942 she married the love of her life, John P. Kimball of Bushnell, Illinois. John and Garnet moved to Houston in 1953 and settled in Highland Village. They had three children and were married for 48 years until his passing in 1990.
One of the highlights of her last years was a trip to the Madeira Islands where she tracked down some of her family members.
Garnet loved her children unconditionally. She was the sweetest, most generous mother, grandmother, and friend anyone could have. We are going to miss her dearly.
She is survived by her loving family, John P. Kimball, Jr. and wife Mary, Todd A. Kimball and wife Linda, and James B. Kimball; grandchildren John P. Kimball, III and wife Anna, Chris Kimball and Katie Kimball; great-grandchildren Taylor Kimball and Estella Kimball.
Garnet was preceded in death by her brother Elbert Gouviea and her sister Marcella Gouviea.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 18 at 10:30am at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Street, Houston, TX 77024.
