Jim was born in Houston on the 12th of September, 1927. One of three children of Garnett Emile Aydam, Sr. and Ellen Josephine Hogan Aydam.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Muriel Simoneaux Aydam, who he shared a full and blessed life, his son Kesley Arvin Aydam and his brother William Hogan Aydam.

He earned a degree in geology and started working in the oil and gas industry. He later started developing and managing apartment complexes in Houston, Austin, and Nacogdoches, Texas.
Jim was stationed on the Battleship Iowa at the end of World War II, and was one of the first service men to occupy Japan.
He is survived by his sister Mary Ellen Aydam, children Sharyn Aydam Weaver and husband Jim, Cynthia Aydam Koger and husband Jerry, Gregory Aydam and wife Marianne, Kelly Aydam Gray, and grandchildren Alyson Weaver Nicholas and husband Evan, James Kyle Weaver and wife Meredith, Brandon Koger, Brittany Koger, Courtney Aydam, Landon Aydam, Kelsey Gray, Haley Aydam and great granddaughter Wimberly Weaver.
