Gary was a man of strong faith who loved the Lord and cherished his family. Affectionately known as “Pops,” he found his greatest joy in time spent with those he loved, no matter the event, he was up for anything. A devoted sports fan, the only thing he loved more than sports was watching his grandchildren play sports. Their games and especially their victories (Pops loved winning) brought him immense pride and happiness.
Sports also played a special role in Gary’s love story. He met his wife, Robin, through her mother, Mary Ruth McCoy, who was taking tennis lessons from Gary. What began on the tennis court became a lifelong partnership and a beautiful family
Gary will be remembered for his quick wit and unforgettable sense of humor, especially his legendary “dad jokes” that brought laughter wherever he went. His unwavering love for his children will be deeply missed: whether he was calling just to talk sports, running errands so no one had to go alone, or insisting on dinner dates at Whataburger. Gary showed his love through presence.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Robin Boyd; his children, Britney Bowie and Tyler Boyd (Jenny Boyd); his cherished grandchildren, Aubrey Boyd, Weston Boyd Bowie, and Molly and Jack Boyd; his sister, Sharon Boyd (Lin Diesi); and his brothers, Steve Boyd (Dana Boyd) and Rick Boyd.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, John and Doris Boyd, and his brother, Larry Boyd.
Those who knew and loved Gary take comfort in knowing he is now fully healed and, as his grandchildren lovingly say, “playing golf with Jesus.”
