Gary Don Grant was born on December 19, 1944 in Tyler, Texas. Gary grew up in Tyler with his parents Grady and Mary Helen Grant and his younger brother Gene Grant. Gary was a graduate of Robert E. Lee high school and shortly after graduating, his father taught him the sheet metal trade in which he worked in for over forty years. He eventually moved his family to Houston, Texas when his children were young. Gary worked hard to provide for his family, taught his children how to have values, work hard in life, and have a strong work ethic. Gary proudly coached his son, David, in sports for many years, enjoyed working on classic cars, auto racing, yard work, wood-working, cards, dominoes with friends, and entertaining for holiday events. Gary loved the Astros and Dallas Cowboys! Gary knew his Lord and savior and later in life he enjoyed his church family at Grand Oaks Church. When Gary was seventy years old, he was diagnosed with esophageal Cancer and underwent a total glossectomy operation in which he lost his tongue and would no longer be able to speak again or eat through his mouth. Friends and family continued to love him through all his days of physical changes, challenges, and his “old school” ways. Gary loved people and always wanted them to come over and eat till they were stuffed.
On May 22, 2021 Gary was working in the yard, his happy place, and now rests in peace with the Lord in his happy place in Heaven. If Gary were here today, he would absolutely, without a doubt, know if there was an Astros baseball or Dallas football game scheduled and what time they played.
Gary loved his kids, grandkids, church family and many friends. As Gary leaves his earthly life, he will be reunited in heaven with his grandparents, parents, his children’s mother and several friends. Gary is remembered with love and affection by his spouse Linda Grant, son David Grant and wife Trish, daughter Lori Lee and her husband Phillip, granddaughters Jennifer, Devyn and Alyssa, great grandchild Carlee June, and his only brother Gene Grant.
