George Brandreth Larkin, Jr. was born in Ossining, NY on May 9, 1924 to George Brandreth Larkin, Sr. & Margaret “Peggy” Larkin. His parents and his brother, James DeWitt Larkin, preceded him in death. He was married in Fremont, NE on June 16, 1951 to Joan Schurman. Their children include Ward, of Houston, John & wife Bev of Naperville, IL, Bruce & wife Janine of Plainwell, MI and George III of Spring, TX. There are six grandsons and one granddaughter. George served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II as a B-17 pilot. After the war he continued to pilot B-17s in Europe to map and assess war damage. Later, working primarily as a salesman, he was employed by several companies. In 1977 he was sent to Houston to open an outlet for Parker Hannifin products. After a few years he purchased the outlet, renamed it Hufco, Inc. and operated it until he retired in 1991. He then spent his leisure time playing golf, as a member of the Northgate Country Club and as a visitor at many other golf courses around Houston. He really enjoyed being with his golfing “buddies”. George mentored high school students at Spring High School. He also volunteered with SCORE (Senior Corps of Retired Executives), advising people interested in starting their own businesses. Most recently, he joined the Volunteer Auxiliary at the Houston Northwest Medical Center, assisting twice a week. He lived a good productive life and will be missed by his loving family. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Houston Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, 710 West FM 1960, Houston TX 77090, or the charity of your choice.
