Born in Rockport, Texas, Georgia was descended from one of the signers of the Goliad Declaration of Independence during the Texas Revolution. Her family moved to Houston in 1929. She attended St. Anne School, and graduated from Lamar High School. For many years, she was an active member of St. Anne Catholic Church, serving in various capacities on the Parish Council, Altar Society, St. Anne’s Guild, and Choir. As a young woman, Georgia was a legal secretary for a prominent Houston law firm, and enjoyed singing in Summertime Light Opera productions.
She married J. Rodney Quinby in 1949, and together they raised three children. They celebrated their golden anniversary in October of 1999. Throughout the years, Georgia remained active in various charities, and was an Emeritus Member of the Charity Guild of Catholic Women.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband; sisters, Jane Smith and Sylvia Simmons; and brother, Cecil Smith. She is survived by her three children and their families: daughters, Georgia Tracy and husband, DeWitt; Elizabeth Quinby and husband, Kirk Bockman of Denver, Colorado; son, J. Rodney Quinby, Jr. and wife, Darlene of Richland, Missouri; and seven grandchildren.
