Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a city girl, Gerri was an only child to parents Gertrude McQuilkin and Harry Manlove.
Because of her passion for travel, she went into the Airforce at the age of 18 to see the world, which led her to a new endeavor, a degree in education.
She was a beloved teacher at Waltrip High School in Houston, Texas for many years, where she taught French. This led her into an accomplished career as an educator, she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma serving various positions in the Houston Chapter, as well as a member of the Academic Year in America.
Gerri was a world traveler who loved to immerse herself into different cultures. Being that Gerri never had any children of her own, her mission in life was to enlighten her students of the things she learned while on her expeditions to Europe, and to educate those in her classroom of how unique the world truly is. She helped countless exchange students come to the United States and experience the American way. Gerri’s passion for education trickled into her classroom, which influenced many of her students into becoming teachers themselves.
Gerri is survived by her truest friend and companion in life for 38 years, Sylvia Peebus. After meeting in the 80’s, they became inseparable forming a friendship that would last a lifetime. They were each other’s confidant, a shoulder to cry on, and a source of laughter in their time together. Gerri is also survived by her First Cousins and many friends including Ann Stefanic a child hood friend, Martha Ewell, Marilyn Forrestal, A.C. Vernor and Jeanette Singleton and many more friends to many to list.
Her Funeral will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home on Tuesday August 22nd at 10:30am
