Geraldine Koska Powell was born on January 9, 1931 in Houston, Texas to parents James Alfred Koska, Sr. and Henrietta Mae Gargano Koska. At the age of 17, she married her sweetheart, Preston Colvin Powell, on July 10, 1948. She enjoyed studying history and astronomy. Her talents contributed to her love of cooking and making arts and crafts. She dedicated her life to her family and kept, along with her husband, a loving home with an open door to anyone needing food, advice, or companionship. She was a religious person and an active member of Durkee United Methodist Church. There she was a teacher in the Children's Sunday School Program and was a member of the United Methodist Women Organization.
Geraldine held a strong opinion that education is a key element for sustaining life and for several years, she participated in the VIPS Program (Volunteers in Public Schools) where she performed special testing for placement purposes and to detect learning disabilities of elementary school age children in the Houston Independent School District.
Geraldine left this world to meet her Savior on May 1, 2019. She is survived by her children: Ronnie Powell, Linda Patke, and Sandra Hulsey and her husband Norman, all of Houston, as well as five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many loving friends that she considered family. She will be greatly missed.
