Gerardo was born in Monterrey, Mexico to Jose and Beatriz Herrera on March 27, 1951. He was the first born of identical twins, brother Mauricio “Mody” Herrera and the oldest of the seven children. The family immigrated to the United States when Gerardo was a teenager, and settled in Houston, Texas. Jerry married his high school sweetheart Julia (Julie) and mother of their two children, David and Julie. They settled and raised their family in Spring, Texas. Jerry owned a tile contracting business for many years. He and the family enjoyed traveling and spending much of their free time RVing, boating and waterskiing at Marina Village on Lake Livingston. Jerry then changed careers and worked for the United States Postal Service, Cypress branch. He loved his post office family dearly, took pride in his work and enjoyed visiting with many of the families on his route. Jerry worked for the USPS for 20 years, and recently retired in June 2021.
Jerry’s other passion was country western dancing... whether it was a polka, two-step, or waltz, he could lead anyone and make it look effortless. He was an incredible dancer! Always dressed for the occasion in his perfectly EXTRA starched shirt (you know… the cowboy way!) and straw hat, with sticks of gum tucked inside the rim. Jerry always had a smile on his face and made friends everywhere he went. Using his great smile and charm, Jerry danced his way into the heart of his wife, Kim Garcia and they resided in Tomball, Texas. The two enjoyed home improvement projects (especially tile work), spending time with family and friends, and serving up Jerry’s semi-famous fajitas.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father, Jose A. Herrera and brother-in-law, Herman Velasquez.
