Glenna Dianne Brittain Spain is now resting in the loving arms of Jesus after passing away at home on March 9, 2013. She was born in Pasadena, Texas, on November 16, 1951, to Pat and Glenn Brittain. After graduating from Sam Rayburn High School and receiving a degree from Sam Houston State University, she married her high school sweetheart, Dan Spain, in 1975 and settled in Houston.
After working as a speech therapist for several years in the Spring Branch Independent School District, Glenna decided to stay home to raise their two adoring daughters. A faithful and active member of Tallowood Baptist Church for more than 35 years, she loved teaching Sunday School for children and teenagers, especially her current second grade department.
Glenna will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her beloved husband of 37 years, Dan Spain; two daughters and their husbands, Summer and Justin Spooner, and Sara and Justin Shuart; two grandsons, Blake and Sutton Spooner; father, Glenn Brittain; sisters Stephanie Riggs and Cindy McWilliams and their families; and countless friends and family members. Glenna has been gloriously reunited in heaven with her mother, Pat Brittain, who preceded her in death.
Precious Glenna constantly inspired, nurtured, and supported her family and friends in countless ways. Her greatest joys were her two daughters and two grandsons, and the blessings of life were sweeter because she shared them with her devoted husband. Her loving, generous, joyful spirit naturally drew others to her, and she will continue to be a blessing to those who knew her.
Almost fourteen months after she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, Glenna received complete healing when she went home to her Heavenly Father. Because of her faith in the Lord Jesus, we have the blessed assurance that we will see her again. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16. She bravely endured her daily sufferings with grace, never complaining and remaining joyful always.
Our family extends sincere gratitude to MD Anderson Cancer Center and Houston Hospice for their wonderful treatment and care of our angel.
We will receive friends on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079.
A private graveside service will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery for family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood Road, Houston, Texas 77024, with a reception to follow.
