He was born to Michael Kalmar and Patricia Cookson on April 3, 1959 in Gary, Indiana. Greg graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1977. He moved to Houston in his early 20s, where he met and married his wife, Maryann, in 1996. They lived in Houston together until his death.
Greg is survived by his wife, Maryann; his children, Justin, 24, and Ashley, 10; father Michael Kalmar, mother Patricia Cookson, stepmother Carol Kalmar, sisters Dana Rothberg and Michelle Owen-Curry, and brother Jeffrey Kalmar. He is also survived by his grandson and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned for Sunday, January 30 from 5pm-7pm at Brookside Funeral Home-Champions on FM1960 West.
