

Harold Holland, Sr., age 93, passed away peacefully at Memorial Hermann Hospital on January 25, 2014, surrounded by his family after complications of pneumonia. Harold was born on April 12, 1920 in Chattanooga, TN to Aaron and Elizabeth Holland. Harold was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He will leave behind many friends and family to cherish his memory.
After his parents died when he was 6 years old, he grew up in an orphanage and later attended The University of Houston and served in the United States Air Force from 1942 – 1945. When stationed in Bryan, TX he met the woman of his dreams, Rosalie Kovar and they were married in 1945. Because of Rosalie and her parents, Will and Lydia Kovar, who loved him like their own, he finally found the family he had been longing for.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents Aaron and Elizabeth Holland; his brothers Daniel and Claude Holland and Will and Lydia Kovar of Snook TX; brothers- in-law Eddie Kovar, Clem Kovar, Bill Kovar and Leonard Kovar; nephew Richard (Rick) Sadler; and sister in-law Lydia Kovar and her husband Raymond Castorena.
He is survived by his lovely wife of nearly 69 years of marriage, Rosalie Kovar-Holland ; his brother William (Bill) Holland and his wife Peggy; his sister Evelyn Rusnak; his children Harold Holland, Jr., Kenneth Holland and Sandy Holland, Carolyn Stoneburner-Sheppard and Debra Holland-Ward; his grandchildren Christina Holland-Eberst and her husband Charles Eberst, Kirk Holland and his wife Sara, Shelley Stoneburner-Walker and her husband Wes Walker, Steven Stoneburner and his wife Maggie, Harold Holland, III, Priscilla Holland, Howard Holland, Elizabeth Holland, Jonathan Ward and Christopher Ward; his great-grandchildren Shannon Morgan, Charlie Eberst, Brandin Holland, Kamryn Holland, Hannah Webb, Chase Draughon, Meagan Walker, Jayden and Jackson Stoneburner, Christian Holland, Alexis Holland, Dallas Holland, Cierra Holland, Marissa Civello and Jullian Civello; his great-great granddaughter Italy Rose Gorman; his in-laws, Doris Kovar Sadler and her husband Robert (Bob) Sadler, Harry Kovar, Sue Kovar and Billie Kovar; many nieces and nephews; and Mary Lou Rumfolo and her son George Bofysil.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Hunters Creek Chapel. Interment will follow with military honors at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery at 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas 77077.
