Rev. Harry S. Coons Jr. age 90 of Lexington, Texas entered into his eternal rest Wednesday, October 31, 2018. Harry was born January 14, 1928, in Dallas, TX to Merle Louise Van Huesen and Harry Sherman Coons.
"I have fought the good fight I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" can truly be said of Rev. Coons, only time will tell how many lives were impacted by this man and his ministry. Harry was a highly educated man, who primarily had a self-taught education. Harry was a minister of God for over 60 years with most of his time in service to the Assemblies of God.
He married Audrey Mitchell Harvel on June 8, 2002. Together they continued in ministry. They were Chaplains and visited and prayed for the sick in hospitals. Harry also drove a school bus for very many years and considered it not just a job but a ministry as well. Harry enjoyed family, telling jokes, and fishing. He was a big man with a booming voice and he was a fun person to be around. His passion was people. Harry's love of people and God was the motivation and driving force behind everything he pursued.
Harry is survived by his wife, Audrey; his children and their spouses: Kenneth Wayne Coons and wife, Diane, Barbara Jean Hale, Linda Sue Young and husband, Gene, Cathy Janelle Hankerman, step-children & spouses: Richard Lynn Harvel, Larry David Harvel & wife, Patricia, Carol Ann Rodriguez & husband, Manuel, Jan Harvel Pena & husband, Joe, Gary Lee Harvel & wife, Kathy, Phillip Joseph Harvel & wife, Sara. Countless grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he dearly loved.
Harry is preceded in death by his first wife, Virgie Lee Coons; daughter Deborah Ann Morgan, son-in-law James Hale; stepson Ronald Ray Harvel, mother Merle Louise Van Huesen and father Harry S. Coons; siblings Juanita Johnson, Joyce Pope, Robert D. (Bob) Coons, Rose Pope, and great-granddaughter, Sarah Emmaline Adame.
A visitation for Harry will be held Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., funeral service on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A committal service will occur immediately following the funeral service at Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039.
Funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Robert L. Stephens.
Serving as pallbearers are Kenneth Coons Jr., Mark Coons, Zachary James Carter, David Daughtery Jr., Jeffrey Lee Daughtery, Kevin Click, James Click, Jonathan Wayne Daughtery, Michael Carter and Jonathan Van Antwerp.
